Storm in the city market
At December 6 we presented the new website www.eirorealists.lv which contains information on the EU Constitution.
Street activities were limited by cold weather and stormy wind (up to 20 meters per second, even the port in Riga was closed because of storm).
What we did:
We took symbolic pictures at Monument of Freedom with the Latvian Constitution and the EU Constitution and than we went (3 groups) into the Riga City market. We distributed thousands of leaflets informing about the EU Constitution. There are two good pictures at the monument and one at the entrance of market.
Taking pictures and leafleting inside market is prohibited. We broke successfully one rule (leafleting) but didn't succeed in breaking the prohibition of taking pictures. They were shot with a soviet era camera without flash. Thus the pictures we took inside the market were too dark. We tried, for instance, to take a picture with the EU Constitution on market scales (normally determining the weight of potatoes, ...). People supported our position very much and many said that they do not believe in the September accession referendum results because they do not know anybody who voted YES to EU.
As, less than 3 months ago, before the accession referendum campaign where the YES side has received 120 times more funds than the NO side, we are currently absolutely out of money - we tried to resist as much as we could (Result: 67% YES, 33% NO).
We are planning much larger actions demanding a referendum for next year.
