First referendum on European constitution already held!

 

On December 6 starting from 11 a.m. in the very centre of the Slovak capital Bratislava several non-governmental organization (Agora - Direct Democracy and Nasa Europa 2000 Slovakia) organized successfully a referendum attempt.

 

Slovak 24 hours TV broadcaster "TA3" regularly informed about this street referendum on EU Constitution and interviewed citizens. The action takes the form of a people's vote, where passers-by have been asked to cast a ballot on whether or not they want to have a say on the EU Constitution. We had many independent observers (local and from Italy and Germany).

 

All members of Slovak National Convention on the Future of Europe, politicians, political parties, press agencies, daily newspapers (foreign and Czech), "Britske listy" and NGOs have been informed.

 

Action in Bratislava Overwhelming majority of people voted in favour of a future constitutional referendum. According to our referendum rules (no quorum or minimum limit on participation), the referendum was valid. We have used our official ballot box with labels such as: Do you have opinion about European Constitution? Do you want to have referendum on this? Many people still do not have information. One of our MP has bypassed without looking. Maybe she does not have an opinion. Maybe she is not alone in Parliament without opinion. But her constituency knows what to do now.
