0) Editorial: European Referendum Campaign - Relaunch

by Ronald Pabst

From 2002 to 2004 Democracy International campaigned for binding referendums on the EU Constitution. In 2005 four referendums took place, in France and the Netherlands the constitution was rejected. The EU Constitution seemed to have failed.

A deadlock followed. The time should be used for deliberation and listening. Now the EU leaders are preparing a Reform Treaty.

The content is - more or less - the same as the proposed EU Constitution.

Therefore, we are preparing a relaunch of the European Referendum Campaign. It is high time that the Europeans can decide about their future.

Stay tuned for news…

2) Comment: The same or not the same

The same or not the same? This is the decisive question when you compare the actual EU Reform Treaty with the former EU Constitution. And there is an answer to it. Open Europe, London, has published a study comparing the wording of both documents.

3) Hamburg: Struggle for binding referendums

Everybody in Hamburg must become aware of the upcoming referendum. It has been initiated by a broad alliance led by our network partner Mehr Demokratie (More Democracy). 3.800 posters are put up all over the city. They invite citizens to take part in the ballot hold on 14 October. The result is vital to get binding referendums. Read the full story:
